Yandy Smith wearing Jacques Louis while hosting Essence Festival Event. - New Orleans Yandy Smith wore a look by Jacques Louis, styled by @mrvladpl. This weekend I had the opportunity of working with an amazing woman, entrepreneur and social activist, Yandy Smith on a pieces for Essence Festival. My piece was featured on @EssenceFest ... with @missjulee (love her π³) @FashionBombDaily ... @theshaderoom ... @lunionsuite, @yandysmith and (a fave) @iamdinasimon pages. . . As a black sustainable designer it's hard to gain as much exposure as other non black/brown eco-fashion designers. From creating in a small studio, making sure to use all materials and interfacing to make the skirt+top+hat combo, collecting fabric scraps to donate, and deciding not to use my serger all to minimize the impact that these pieces have on the planet, I'm really π₯° with the outcome. . . I had stopped sewing while in Grad school (Pratt Alum ππΎββοΈ) to focus on just that. Once I finished I eventually promised myself that I'd use all fashion design, Design Management and Bio/Chem tools that I had to make my brand @jacqueslouisjlc better. It's slowly coming together. Who knew I'd go from a Cell Bio Researcher in undergrad to an Environmentalist + Sustainable Fashion Designer + Design Strategist + Social Activist. TBLD + C = Triple Bottom Line by Design + Culture. The print used for this piece is a traditional (Samakaka) print of the Mumuila Tribe in Angola π. . . I'm grateful for all of the reposts and messages. Remember when it's your time, the most high will push you in a way that will make your divine purpose come to life. I'll be smiling for a while. πππ #EssenceFest #essencemagazine #sustainablefashion #ecofashion #Environment #Fairtrade #environmentalist #Reduce #Reuse #Recycle #BlackFashionDesigner #Upcycle #CircularEconomy #Brand #growthmindset #Focus #SelfLove #selfcare #blackgirlsrock #divinefeminine #BlackGirlMagic #Angola #Culture #socialactivism 121 Likes, 46 Comments - πΏTAITU - π«ππ«πβ»οΈ (@thearteofstyle) on Instagram: "This weekend I had the opportunity of working with an amazing woman, entrepreneur and social..."
